Specific Job Description

RMSL is a growth company with an outstanding job opportunity for a research project engineer. This position will report to the Research and Development Group Lead. The Mechanical Engineer will be an integral part of a small cross functional team working on an exciting development project with cutting-edge technology. In this role, the ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, sourcing, prototyping, integrating, testing, and optimizing energetic materials for use in ammunition and armaments. This individual must demonstrate innovation, an understanding of various engineering systems, out-of-the-box thinking and creativity.


Duties Include

  • Design of experiments, hardware, and software solutions

  • Instrumentation setup and data collection

  • Fabrication of prototype mechanical and electrical hardware

  • Handle energetic materials, armaments, and weapon systems

  • Integrate energetic materials in to end articles such as ammunition and munitions.

  • Assistance with company compliance in restricted information security regulations

  • Project engineering tasks such as report writing, technical presentations (at customer and public meetings), and technical deliverables tracking

  • Occasional business development activities in your area of expertise; e.g., customer relations, opportunity identification, proposal writing

  • Assistance with company compliance in explosive storage and handling regulations


Required Skills

  • Problem solver that can work in a team environment on fast pace projects

  • Ability to work hands-on building and assembling mechanical systems

  • Exercises creative thinking and innovation

  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical manufacturing and mechanical assembly / processes

  • Extensive experience with mechanical engineering drawings and bill of materials

  • Ability to analyze and manufacture complex assemblies

  • Familiarity with mechanisms manufacturing, test, and qualification. Knowledge of CNC and conventional machining and machine shop theory

  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM software packages such as SolidWorks, I-DEAS, Creo (Pro-E), and Mastercam

  • Familiar with general explosive effects and chemistry

  • Hands-on experience with energetic materials

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas

    • Armament and munition development

    • Explosive Testing

  • Direct experience with robotics, mechatronics, and control systems

  • Rapid prototyping knowledge and experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Physical requirements

    • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.; must have the ability to see near and far and work with a computer monitor on a daily basis

    • Required to bend, sit, stand and lift to perform job effectively

  • Must be able to work overtime as required


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a BS and/or MS in a related field of study such as Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field

  • Ability to obtain security clearance

  • Ability to obtain CO State Blaster’s Permit

  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM software packages such as SolidWorks, I-DEAS, Creo (Pro-E), and Mastercam
