Specific Job Description

RMSL is a growth company with an outstanding job opportunity for a Test Engineer/ Senior Test Technician. This position is full time, at-will exempt and will report to the Group Lead of the Test Division at RMSL.

 

Duties Include

  • Work with engineers and technicians to design, coordinate, develop and execute test plans that meet customer requirements while placing safety first

  • Design, construct, and implement high-tech instrumentation and remote/automated test systems and platforms that collect data in a safe, effective, and reliable manner under direction of Project Engineer

  • Recommend changes and improvements to current test processes and operations

  • Help design and setup test apparatus and fixtures to extract key experimental data and parameters

  • Review/self-check data to ensure accuracy and expectation of result

  • Construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, test, and maintain equipment, components, devices, or systems

  • Use software design tools such as SolidWorks and LabVIEW to help support test development and measurement activities

  • Perform calibration and alignment checks on equipment; modify, adjust, and replace components as needed or directed

  • Maintain records on work performed, analyzes data collected, and reports results

  • Independently perform routine, non-routine, and moderately complex test series

  • Participate in the brainstorming and design process for new products, instrumentation, and processes

  • Interface with RMSL customers, teammates, and partners in a professional manner

  • Perform other duties and assumes other responsibilities as requested

  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule

  • Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization

Required Skills

  • Experience with dynamic experimentation and high-speed instrumentation (data and video)

  • Proficiency using test equipment such as data acquisition systems and operating based software such as NI LabVIEW, Matlab, or DASYLab is a must (write code/program/set-up for vibration and environmental testing)

  • Knowledge of instrumentation technology for measuring and controlling pressure and temperature

  • Analytical skills to include developing assessment metrics (both subjective and objective), identifying data collection requirements, analyzing data, and summarizing results with a focus on identify process improvements

  • Must be able to follow schematics, assembly drawings, safety and standard operating procedures, and execute test plans

  • Possess a thorough understanding of electrical, digital, and analog circuitry and electronics

  • Experience in electronics assembly, electronic diagnostics, and familiarity with signal generators, multimeters, oscilloscopes, pressure transducers, accelerometers, thermocouples, humidity probes, and power supplies

  • Aptitude for technical problem solving and troubleshooting down to the component level

  • Ability to use basic hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.) and simple measurement tools, such as calipers and rulers

  • Self-starter capable of performing assigned tasks with very little to no direction with an attitude of neatness, timeliness, orderliness, and accuracy

  • Multi-task and able to manage a variety of simple and complicated tasks

  • Soft skills such as effective verbal skills, effective writing, organization and clarity of thought, and ability to work as a valued cross-functional team member

  • Strong technical/analytical writing skills with experience developing test plans, briefings, and reports

  • Desire to work in a fast-paced productive environment with growth potential

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office suite of software applications

  • Physical requirements:

    • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time; must be able to lift 25 lbs.; must have the ability to see near and far and work with a computer monitor daily

    • Required to bend, sit, stand, and lift to perform job effectively

    • Work in an office environment as well as laboratory and outdoor test range

  • Must be able to work overtime when necessary to meet goals

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Desired Skills/Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in a test environment that included explosives or firearms highly desired

  • Modeling using SolidWorks Simulation, LS-DYNA, ANSYS, or CTH

  • Familiarity with Raspberry Pi and Arduino systems

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 8 or more years of relevant experience or technical Associate degree and 4 years’ relevant experience or more

  • Good aptitude for problem evaluation and troubleshooting

  • Must possess U.S. Citizenship

  • Ability to pass an ATF “Responsible Party” background check and obtain State of Colorado Type 1 Explosives Blaster permit

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field from a university, college or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education. Years of relevant experience a plus.

Work Environment

  • Employee may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, high pressures and temperatures, high decibel noise, energetic materials, as well as ballistic and explosive devices while using appropriate test and safety procedures with personal protective equipment.
