Specific Job Description

RMSL is a growth company with an outstanding job opportunity for a mechanical engineer. This position will report to the Testing Group Lead. In this role, the ideal candidate will be responsible for:

  • Performs engineering design and analyses work and provides engineering support in developing/evaluating specific research areas associated with evolving security technologies. 

  • Receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level engineer.

  • Assists in the preparation of technical plans, reports and technology studies; reviews and comments on past and present work related to specific research areas.

  • Prepares briefing material on ongoing activities; attends meetings with customer and other relevant contractor personnel in order to better understand engineering issues related to transportation security.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Physical requirements:

    • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time;  must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.; must have the ability to see near and far and work with a computer monitor on a daily basis

    • Required to bend, sit, stand and lift to perform job effectively

Desired Skills

  • Energetic Materials Analysis and Characterization – experience including but not limited to:

    • Determining the sensitivity and stability of improvised explosives/HME’s due to impact, friction, electrostatic discharge, thermal changes, etc.

    • Conducting elemental composition, explosive potential, and/or detection probability of liquid and solid energetic materials.

    • Development and application of test instrumentation techniques.

    • Small scale and scaled-up HME preparation/safety testing/evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering related field from an accredited college or university, including studies in the areas of research concepts, principles, practices, and techniques of research engineering in electrical/electronics, mechanical, or materials.

  • US Citizenship

  • Ability to obtain security clearance
